04 - Components
A run is a kit, not a part.
A channel is not bought by the metre; it is drawn as a run and delivered as a kit. Sections, branches, corners, outlets, end caps and gratings are separate parts, so a damaged grating is a part number rather than a new channel.
A run, not a part
Two families set the floor. The components are what make a drawing buildable: straight sections, branches, corners, outlets, end caps, gratings, gaskets and edge details, all from the same module.
The straight run
What comes in the kit
- Linear sections - cut to length, bolted end to end; a run that is not a whole number of sections is normal.
- Branches - a second leg into the same run, so two washdown lines do not need two outlets.
- Corners - 90 degree, drawn with the fall; the corner is where a run either drains or holds water.
- Outlets - gravity through the invert, or pumped where the sewer sits above the outlet.
- End caps - closed, or with an inspection port for rodding.
- Gratings - bar, mesh, heavy, or a continuous slot insert; the load class is stated, not implied.
- Gaskets and fixings - replaceable parts, listed on the drawing so they can be re-ordered.
- Edge finish - flange to the waterproofing, or a tile-in edge where the finish runs into the channel.
Fixed and per project
Fixed
304 or 316 body, grating and basket; no-tool access; the same seal carrier across both families; the same gasket and fixing set across both families.
Per project
Every length, width, outlet position, branch position, cover finish and load class. These are drawing quantities, not stock quantities - which is why a run leaves here with a dimension sheet.
Structure only - not published
- Measured section widths and depths for both families, once the current batch is locked
- Load class per grating variant, tested - not estimated from plate thickness
- A DWG library of standard sections, branches and corners
- Confirmation of which component lengths are held as standard
