03 — Series / BASKET
BASKET — under a sink, at a door, at the low corner
If the basket needs a tool to open, it will not be opened. That is the whole design brief.
BASKET — fixed parameters
Section
A point drain with a basket big enough to hold a shift's worth of solids, so the body below it stays clear and the outlet does not have to be rodded. The basket is the part that gets handled, so the basket is the part that has to survive handling.
How this series fails
- A basket that sits below the grate and is invisible: it fills, water backs up, and nobody knows why.
- Perforations too fine for the solids and too coarse for the water — the wrong trade either way.
- A body with a ledge under the basket: everything that passes the perforation settles there.
What decides the size
- Solids size and volume per shift — that is the perforation and the basket depth
- Whether it is trapped or free-discharging
- Whether a hose is aimed at it, which decides the grate
- Whether it is indoors or at a door, which decides the flange and the material
Structure only — not published
- Dimensions: length, width, depth, outlet position and build-up height — issued on the dimension sheet per project
- Load class for each grate variant, once tested
- Assembly photographs, once the shoot is done
- A worked example with a run length, a fall and an outlet, as a downloadable section
