02.3 — Application

The room nobody draws.

Bin wash, trolley wash, mop drop, plant room floor. Wet, gritty, cleaned rarely, and usually the room that smells. It is the cheapest place to get the drain right and the most common place to get it wrong.

Typical series
BASKET · TRAP · SUMP
Grate
heavy, foot or pallet traffic
Seal
50 mm, or dry trap where it dries out
Failure mode
Drying seal and grit that sets like concrete

The floor conditions

  • What lands on the floor: grit, silt, food waste, hose water at mains pressure, and whatever comes off the bottom of a bin.
  • Flow shape: a hose at full bore for twenty minutes, then nothing for two days.
  • Cleaning regime: rarely, and by whoever is on shift.
  • Who inspects: nobody, which is exactly why it fails quietly.

How it fails

  • A shallow trap under a hose point: it scours out and the room smells by midweek.
  • A basket too small for the solids: it fills in a week and gets taken out and lost.
  • A drain set in the middle of the room where a pallet truck turns — the grate takes the load, the body takes the damage.

What we specify

  • Hose point with grit → SUMP with a high-capacity basket and a silt sump below the invert.
  • Days between use → TRAP with a dry-trap cartridge or a self-priming arrangement, declared.
  • Trolley traffic → heavy grate, and the load class on the sheet before the order.
  • Outdoor or semi-outdoor → the same body, a different flange detail.

What to send

  • A photo of the room, wide
  • What is washed in there and with what
  • How often the floor actually gets water
  • Whether a vehicle or pallet truck goes in

Structure only — not published

  • Photographs of installed bays
  • Silt capacity figures, once measured
  • Whether a dry-trap variant is in scope for this series
